Still Life
Close your eyes,
recall the dream
and him with it.
Call out for comfort
in the days ahead;
the doing
of all that is needful,
expected
to sustain you-
the pretense of joy,
freedom to choose
the silence awaiting you
even now,
as it would the first
honest word.

Rock-a-Bye
Hope
I wore for warmth
has now been
set aside,
yet
there is this
last kiss
to be given,
hinges -
a lid to be closed
across
nothing more;
the path home,
a door
that opens
into rooms
with nothing
left
to them
but the hurting.
